Client’s Needs

Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement needed 17 kilometers of critical road in their community reconstructed and brought back up to Alberta Transportation standards. The roads needed to remain open throughout construction to allow the community to keep moving. Chemco also added two bridge files to the road.

Challenges

Challenges faced while building the road included the following:

  • Maintaining one-lane traffic at all times for local residents to access their homes. This highlighted Chemco’s commitment to safety and its role in ensuring local residents were safe to drive on the road while the project was in progress.
  • Managing to available work fronts to get the job done right and on time, while maintaining the highest level of safety.

Projects Highlights

We worked hand in hand with residents and officials to maximize the benefit to the community. Understanding the individuals from Buffalo Lake, we were able to employ band members with the right skill set to get the job done right. Ultimately we achieved our goal of ensuring at least 30% of the workforce came from within the community. Project success culminated in ribbon cutting ceremony to acknowledge our commitment to both the project and the community.
