Uncured
Patches for Bias Ply Skidder Tires
Tires used on
log skidders, harvesters and forwarders are exposed to some of the most
punishing service conditions of any OTR tires. They are all of very light
ply construction and are operated at low inflation. Consequently, their
carcasses are subject to violent flexing. We have, therefore,
designed this series of SK patches to be very thin, allowing the repair to
conform to this violent flexing and have specified very large surface
areas to maximize the patch’s bonding with the tire casing. The plies of
these SK patches are made with our special double strength LS thermal
stable cords to prevent shrinkage during cure. All sizes have only 4
plies, but the double strength cords results in an 8 ply rating.

HOW TO USE THE ABOVE CHART. In order to select the appropriate
repair unit, determine the size of the injury in the tire by measuring
the largest cord area removed after skiving and buffing. Using this
injury size, refer to the two left most columns in inches or
millimetres. Locate the tire’s cross section along the top of the
chart. The correct repair unit corresponds to the intersection of the
injury size and the cross section. For example, for a three inch injury
in a tire with an 18.4 cross section, the correct repair unit would be
an SK17.
